Our Impact: A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club

Watch our video!

Since 1966, the A. G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club has been making a difference….and having a major impact upon the lives of countless children in our community.

How?

By implementing a time-tested Youth Development Strategy for successful character development. Our programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling:
  • A sense of competence …
  • A sense of usefulness …
  • A sense of belonging …
  • A sense of power or influence …

Our impact upon the community

Beyond the impact on the individual child, the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club has demonstrated its benefits to the families and the public housing neighborhoods where clubs have had a sustained presence. Among these benefits are:
  • a reduction in juvenile delinquency, as seasonal sports programs successfully attract young people, keep them involved, and teach them valuable lessons in life including working with others on a team.
  • an increase in scholastic achievement, as a result of the emphasis on education in the learning centers and throughout the Boys & Girls Clubs program.
  • a reduction in the use of drugs and alcohol among neighborhood youth, as a result of member participation in drug awareness and personal responsibility teaching programs.
  • an impact on families struggling to break the cycle of poverty, as our members are more likely to graduate from high school and go on to lead productive lives.
