Our History: A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club

Dr. A.G. Gaston
July, 1892 - Jan. 1996
The A. G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club enjoys a rich heritage. For more than 40 years, The Club has been an integral part of Birmingham’s effort to increase services to children and their families in the most underserved communities.

Founded by local business and civic leader, Dr. A. G. Gaston, The Club continues inspiring and enabling young people to become responsible, productive and caring citizens. You see, Dr. Gaston wanted to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to share in the American Dream and he believed The Club could provide them with the resources to succeed.

Well, he was right!

The legacy of Dr. Gaston continues each and every day at our Club facilities. Dr. Gaston saw the potential in others, even when they could not see it in themselves.

His investment in the community has not been forgotten, despite his death in 1996 at the age of 103. Dr. Gaston remains the much-beloved icon of a successful black businessman in the South; a family man who inspired family values in those with fractured, dysfunctional or incomplete families.

It is with respect and love for this heritage that the A. G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club continues the tradition of service that Dr. Gaston founded, and proudly bears his name.
